Faculty Fellow William Donahue’s piece, “Whose War Is It?” was recently featured in Commonweal Magazine. The letter considers the effects of Russia’s war in Ukraine through the lens of Germany.
Donahue notes, “After Poland, Germany has taken in more Ukrainian refugees than any other country. As of late February, they number about 1.2 million,” and goes on to consider the challenges associated with providing for such a substantial population influx, specifically in schools.
Donahue spoke to a rector at a well-respected school working to take in refugee students, fighting against many parental disputes. He stressed his new mission statement; “If we don’t do this, he asked, why even continue on?”
