Matthew Coetzee is a first-year PhD student in sociology at the University of Notre Dame and a PhD Fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies. His research is focussed within the subfields of political and cultural sociology with an emphasis on how societies negotiate past injustices, diversity and collective identities.
Before coming to Notre Dame, Matthew was a Yale-China Fellow with the Yale-China Association. He holds an MSc from SOAS University of London and a BA from Yale University.
