About

The profile below was current as of 2022 when she was part of the on-campus Kellogg community.

Mariah is a senior from Denver, CO studying neuroscience and behavior and international development studies. For her senior capstone project, Horvath is working with Professor Lacey Ahern, the Palliative Care Association of Uganda, and Dr. Simon Kizito of Makerere University on a cross-sectional study to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the mental health of palliative care workers. The project will not only assess the prevalence of depression, anxiety and psychological distress among palliative care providers, but also describe the challenges providers have faced as a result of the pandemic and the current interventions and resources made available to providers by their associated hospice or hospital. Given challenges associated with the pandemic, the project is still ongoing, but hopes to describe how palliative care organizations can better support the mental health of their providers during the current and future pandemics.
