About

A science-business and Spanish major with a minor in Latino Studies, Mabry Webb ‘22 is spending the summer doing a remote public health internship with VACorps in Cape Town, South Africa. Interested in the intersection of science and culture, she will utilize this opportunity as an immersive experience to develop cross-cultural knowledge in the realm of global healthcare. Through mentorship, discussion, and research in the field of public health, Webb will be learning about how health practices shape key populations in South Africa. Working alongside Doctors Takiyah White-Ndwanya and Vuyiseka Dubula-Majola, she will study health institutions, NGOs, and the people that they serve to help develop tools that address challenges that the public in sub-Saharan Africa faces, especially concerning HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past 15 months in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, discrepancies in access and quality of healthcare across the world have become especially apparent in terms of disease treatment and vaccine access. Through her work with this organization, Webb will work to reduce healthcare inequalities in these locations.
