What is wellbeing? How is it understood and experienced by people living in extreme poverty?

Vanderbilt anthropologist Ted Fischer, author of The Good Life: Aspiration, Dignity and the Anthropology of Wellbeing, has dedicated his research to understanding how people of different backgrounds pursue ‘the good life.’

Inspired by his findings, he co-founded the innovative social enterprise Maní Plus in 2009 to fight child malnutrition in Guatemala.

In this student-organized event, Fischer will share experiences from Maní Plus and engage in dialogue with students about how social entrepreneurship can empower communities to sustain their own wellbeing. The discussion should be of particular interest to undergraduates interested in international development and social entrepreneurship.
