Lívia Duarte was born and raised in Vitória, the capital of the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. She is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Notre Dame. Lívia holds a Master's degree in Romance Languages Literature from the University of Georgia (UGA), and two Bachelor's degrees: one in Portuguese and Italian Language and Literature from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), and another in English Language and Literature, also from UFES.

Currently, her academic interests include narratives of displacement, the construction of Brazilian national identities, Young Adult literature, and literature by Latino writers and immigrants. As a Kellogg Institute Doctoral Student Affiliate, Lívia hopes to contribute her expertise and engage in discussions on key international issues that impact society, such as immigration, with a particular focus on Latin America, but also extending to other regions such as Africa and Asia.
