About

Hakan Mehmetcik is a Professor of International Relations at the Faculty of Political Science, Marmara University, Türkiye. His expertise spans Computational International Relations (IR), International Political Economy (IPE), and Global Governance, with a specific focus on the structural complexities of globalization, global governance and the strategic behavior of middle powers. 

He has been the principal researcher for several national and international projects, employing computational techniques such as statistical modeling and social media analysis on both long-run historical and real-time datasets.  His current research investigates how trade-weighted spatial influences and institutional mechanisms, like Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs), shape the worldwide diffusion of democratic and autocratic norms. His extensive body of work is published in international journals and books specializing in foreign policy and the political economy of development. 

He is currently a visiting scholar at the Kellogg Institute, University of Notre Dame, and his visit is funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).
