“Protecting the European Automobile Industry through Environmental Regulation” (Research presentation, Luksic conference, Santiago, Chile)
The economics departments of Notre Dame and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile are holding a conference in Santiago, Chile in March 2014. Thurk will present one of his projects. This represents a great opportunity to share research with excellent researchers outside of Notre Dame. Thurk will present “Protecting the European Automobile Industry through Environmental Regulation” in which he argues that environmental regulation created in Europe during the early 1990s has acted as a non-tariff barrier to foreign imports. This paper is related to Kellogg’s Human Development research theme as it shows that this non-tariff barrier has a large impact on firm pricing, firm innovation, and consumer welfare.
