Do Politicians Care about Democracy? Surveying Latin American Legislators
Grants to Support Faculty Fellows' Research
Do politicians care about democracy, or merely about winning elections and holding power? Is there variance across parties and countries on this issue? Along with my collaborator, David Nickerson, I propose to measure the extent to which democratic commitments vary across countries and parties by surveying Latin American national legislators in 18 countries. To our knowledge, this will be the first attempt to directly measure democratic attitudes in political elites across a sizable number of countries.
