COLEF Seminar
Faculty Research Grant
The grant is to present a seminar on Richman's research on Haitian transnational migration at the Social Sciences program at COLEF. In addition, Richman will meet with sociologists at the department who are conducting research on the situation of migrants and refugees at the Tijuana/San Diego border.
Further research will take place in Tijuana to conduct pilot research on the situation of approximately ten thousand Haitians at the border. Richman has been researching and publishing about the migration strategies and behaviors of Haitian transnational families for over three decades. The development of a Haitian migration route through Tijuana developed only within the last few years. Richman has been tracking this movement through reports and interviews with relatives of migrants who are based in Haiti and North America.
