About

Ethan Harned is a junior at the University of Notre Dame, studying Psychology on the Pre-Health track with a minor in Compassionate Care in Medicine. He is passionate about reducing disparities in global health care specifically for children facing chronic and terminal diseases. In high school, Ethan worked as the Vice President of Fundraising for the Norton Children’s Hospital Foundation Youth Philanthropy Program to coordinate fundraising efforts supporting the development of top-quality care for children in the Kentuckiana region. Alongside Prof. Lacey Ahern, Ethan now works with Global Partners in Care, an international nonprofit working to improve access to palliative care in low-resource settings. Through this organization, he has worked with multiple regional and national palliative care organizations in supporting their marketing, advocacy, and educational efforts. During the summer of 2023, Ethan worked alongside the Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU) to look at current work to support children, persons with disabilities, and older persons in Uganda. His work was used by PCAU to plan for future programming that supports these populations strategically. Moving forward, Harned is seeking to develop his research skills to contribute to the field of global health now and in his future career.
