Enrique Desmond Arias is associate professor of public policy in the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, where his research focuses on security and politics in Latin America and the Caribbean. The author of Criminal Enterprises and Governance in Latin America and the Caribbean (Cambridge University Press, 2017) and Drugs and Democracy in Rio de Janeiro: Trafficking, Social Networks, and Public Security (University of North Carolina Press, 2006), among other works, Arias is currently working on a book project on the neighborhood-level determinants of crime in Bogotá, Lima, and Santiago. He holds a PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
