Diego Lopez Aguirre is a first-year student at the Ph.D. program in Spanish. He hold a double bachelor's in Literature and Art History from Universidad of Los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia). He has worked as a curatorial assistant and researcher for the Santa Clara and Colonial Museums in Bogotá, Colombia, two public institutions run by the Ministry of Culture of Colombia.

Diego's research interests are the relationship between text and image in the Spanish American world during the Renaissance and Baroque eras, the continuity of the Coloniality in contemporary Latin American cultural productions, gender and sexual representations during the 16th and 17th century and its relationship with the formation of the Spanish Empire during the Early Modern period, and the problem of colonial cultural heritage.
