Charles Sander is a sophomore from Sacramento, California. He is majoring in biological sciences and economics, with minors in the Glynn Family Honors Program and philosophy, politics, and economics. Charles is passionate about exploring the connections between science and society. He conducts neuroscience research on an independent neurodevelopment project in the Patzke Lab on campus, but he is also interested in how science affects public policy. Through the Student Policy Network, Charles has led teams of Notre Dame students in conducting interdisciplinary education and healthcare policy research, and he has presented his policy research at conferences from California to Washington DC. On campus, Charles also serves as vice president of NDVotes, and is treasurer of the Biology Club. As a Spanish speaker, Charles spends his free time volunteering as a translator at a local health clinic for people on Emergency Medicaid, and he teaches STEM programs to youth at La Casa de Amistad, a Hispanic community center in South Bend. In addition to his language skills, Charles has experience coding in bash, python, and R, as well as writing literature reviews and reports on science policy topics.
