Following years of increasingly authoritarian rule and recent massive protests, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was forced to resign and flee in August. Three days later, Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist Muhammad Yunus was sworn in as the head of the country’s interim government. Since then, his administration has been attempting to restore stability by initiating various reforms, amid calls for elections for a new parliament. In this conversation with Kellogg Visiting Fellow Nusrat Chowdhury and Faculty Fellow Susan Ostermann, learn more about the current situation and what might be next for a country trying to restore democracy against a backdrop of grave economic conditions, political divisiveness, and social unrest.
