Alexa Mulroe is a junior at the University of Notre Dame studying neuroscience and behavior, and minoring in International Development Studies. Alexa is passionate about global health and finding innovative ways to solve health disparities in developing countries. Specifically, her research interest is focused on maternal health, looking at how stigma and psychosocial stressors contribute to birth outcomes in Sub-Saharan African countries. As a Kellogg Developing researcher, Alexa hopes to become more fluent in the languages of global health and development, learning about best practices for cultivating research methods and conducting fieldwork. As a future PA, she hopes to integrate her research into practice, and deliver compassionate, equitable care and education to pregnant women internationally.
On campus, she is part of the Klau Institute’s With Voice’s True project, interviewing diverse students, faculty, and alumni on topics like identity, representation, culture, and improving race relations on campus. Last semester she was a part of Professor Anna Geltzer’s Community Health Work Advocacy Research Practicum, helping community health workers gather data in support of their own activities and researching current funding mechanisms for sustaining the CHW position. As a part of the Kellogg Institute, Alexa is looking forward to pursuing her passion in maternal health equity and learning what it means to be a global health researcher.
