Former Visiting Fellow Steven Levitsky was quoted in an article in The New York Times about the rise of opposition politics in Western democracy, particularly with regard to Brexit. The issues arising from this increase in politics based on destruction of opponents rather than support of one's own party are compounded by a rise in populism that threatens the political status quo. Levitsky said, “For better and worse, the moderation, policy stability and informal checks imposed by the establishments’ monopoly over access to elected office are disappearing."
