Luis Felipe López Calva is the Regional Director of Latin America and the Caribbean at the United Nations Development Programme. In this capacity, he supports governments, civil society organizations, and private sector institutions in the region as they work to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. López Calva has close to three decades of experience advising Latin American governments and working in leadership positions of multilateral organizations. Among his many professional positions, he served as Manager of the World Practice of Poverty and Equity (Europe and Central Asia) at the World Bank and co-director and lead author of the 2017 World Development Report on "Governance and Law." His research interests are in the realm of labor markets, poverty and inequality, institutions and microeconomics of development. He holds a master’s degree in economics from Boston University, as well as a master’s degree and a PhD in economics from Cornell University.
