Flavio Comim is a development economist with the IQS School of Management at the Universitat Ramon Llullan in Barcelona. He is an affiliated lecturer in human development and ecosystems at the University of Cambridge, where he is also a visiting fellow at St. Edmund’s College. His work takes an interdisciplinary perspective on human development and the capability approach, incorporating ethics and social justice into development studies.

He is a founding member of the Human Development and Capability Association, which promotes research related to development.

Comim is a research associate at the Von Hügel Institute for Critical Catholic Inquiry, an interdisciplinary research hub inspired by Catholic thought and focused on global issues, where he leads the research stream on economics and human development.

He has worked as a consultant for United Nations bodies including the Food and Agriculture Organization and the UN Development Assistance Programme.

He is also a referee for the European Research Council and the Templeton Foundation, and is a lecturer at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.

He has written or coedited a number of publications, including the 2014 book Capabilities, Gender, Equality: Toward Fundamental Entitlements (Cambridge University Press, with Martha Nussbaum) and The Capability Approach: concepts, measures and applications (Cambridge University Press, 2008, with Mozaffar Qizilbash and Sabina Alkire).
