Henry M. Levin is the William Heard Kilpatrick Professor of Economics and Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he codirects the Center for Benefit-Cost Studies in Education. Widely known as a leader of educational innovation, he has published 20 books and hundreds of articles in his areas of specialty, the economics of education and human resources.

His current research focuses on educational reform, educational vouchers, cost-effectiveness analysis, educational privatization, and benefit-cost studies in education.

Also the David Jacks Professor of Higher Education and Economics, Emeritus, Stanford University, Levin previously directed Stanford’s Institute for Research on Educational Finance. From 1986 to 2000, he led the Accelerated Schools Project, a national school reform initiative for at-risk youngsters that encompassed approximately 1,000 schools in 41 states.

He has held Fulbright professorships in Spain and Mexico and is guest faculty at Peking University and an honorary professor at Bejing Normal University. Previously, he was an economist at the Brookings Institution.

An elected member of the National Academy of Education, Levin is the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the Association for Educational Finance and Policy, in addition to numerous other awards and honorary degrees. He holds a PhD in economics from Rutgers University.
