Sreeraahul Kancherla is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Economics at UC Berkeley, with a focus in public and labor economics. His research agenda generally analyzes ways in which the US tax, transfer, and social insurance system has shaped income, inequality, and labor market dynamics. A key focus of this research is to understand how workers respond to income shocks, with a particular focus on unemployment and job search. His other work analyzes capital gains taxation, independent contracting, and tax enforcement.

This profile was current as of 2017, when he was part of the on-campus Kellogg community.

My current research for Dr. Bergstrand involves his Economic Integration Agreement Dataset, a renowned file which attempts to list and categorize all economic integration agreements since 1960 across nearly all country pairs. While my role has principally been to study the European Union, with a particular focus on generalized system of preferences agreements, I will also be leading my fellow International Scholars to continue improving and updating the dataset this year.

Outside of ISP, I conduct economic research with a domestic or theoretical focus. The past two summers, I have received UROP grants to perform empirical poverty alleviation evaluation research as a research assistant at the Lab for Economic Opportunities—working in fields as diverse as healthcare, community college persistence, early childhood education, and senior housing. I was also able to begin research in differential game theory while studying abroad in Mathematics at Oriel College, Oxford.
