Stefano Zamagni is professor of economics and former dean of the economics faculty at the University of Bologna. In addition, he serves as the vice director for Italian affairs at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Europe (Bologna Center), where he teaches international political economics.

His research focuses on welfare economics, theories of consumer behavior, social choice theory, economic epistemology, ethics, the history of economic thought, and civil economy. Among his many publications are the recent Handbook on the Economics of Reciprocity and Social Enterprise (coedited, 2013) and Cooperative Enterprise: Facing the Challenge of Globalization (coauthored, 2010), both from Edward Elgar.

The recipient of numerous honors, Zamagni is a member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences and the Pontifical Council on Justice and Peace and a fellow of the Human Development and Capability Association. He attended Linacre College at the University of Oxford and holds a Doctor Honoris Causa in economics from Madrid’s University Francisco de Vitoria.
