Drawing upon two years of ethnographic work in marginalized neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, this talk dissects the uses and forms of interpersonal violence among the urban poor, examines the way in which the state reproduces such violence, and explores the individual and collective ethical responses that residents devise to cope with it.
