Jacob Turner is a PhD student in the Department of Political Science. His research interests focus on the politics of democratization and post-conflict transitions in Latin America, particularly the impact of competitive electoral politics and state building in the context of weakly institutionalized democratic regimes. His work has analyzed the transition of armed rebel groups into political parties, the determinants of redistributive conflict, and the impact of subnational democratic quality on the spread of criminal violence in the context of El Salvador among other topics.

Also a student in the department of Applied and Computational Mathematics and Statistics (ACMS), Turner is committed to combining cutting edge quantitative methodologies with the diverse methodological backgrounds of the lab to address the questions most relevant to the victims of human rights abuses and human rights practitioners.
