Doctoral Student Affiliates (anthropology & peace studies) Kristina Hook and Drew Marcantonio have published a new article in Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists about the war-related environmental crisis that is currently unfolding in Ukraine. The article explores many aspects of this critical issue, including nuclear contamination risks, and emphasizes the need for a focused global response.
They write, "This complex picture of the environmental emergency in Ukraine suggests that the cost of war stretches well beyond the confines of direct physical fighting. Unless this array of environmental issues is directly addressed, the ecosystem and the people inhabiting the Donbas region will suffer and literally embody...the damage for decades to come."
