Nikhil Menon

Nikhil Menon is an associate professor of history at the University of Notre Dame, specializing in the history of modern South Asia and the intellectual and political history of 20th century India. He is a faculty fellow at both the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies. He has been a Kellogg Institute faculty fellow since 2018.

His publications include the journal article “‘Fancy Calculating Machine’: Computers and Planning in Independent India” in Modern Asian Studies (2018); edited volume The Postcolonial Moment in South and Southeast Asia, co-edited with Gyan Prakash and Michael Laffan (Bloomsbury, 2018); and “‘Help the Plan—Help Yourself’: Making India Plan-Conscious,” in Gyan Prakash, Michael Laffan, and Nikhil Menon (eds.), a chapter in The Postcolonial Moment in South and Southeast Asia (Bloomsbury, 2018).

He earned a PhD and MA in history from Princeton University. He also earned a MPhil in modern Indian history from Jawaharlal Nehru University, and a MA and BA in history from the University of Delhi.
