Race Bates is a second-year student from Phoenix, Arizona, studying Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame. He speaks Spanish fluently and is currently learning Portuguese. Bates’s research interests include international economics, global supply chains, and national security, with a particular focus on understanding how resources shape policy. Bates is actively involved with additional research initiatives on campus through the Student Policy Network, Notre Dame Beyond Politics, and Student International Business Council, where he analyzes policy issues and financial strategies. He is also a member of the Notre Dame Rugby team, serving as the team’s treasurer within its board.

Through his academic and extracurricular work, Bates seeks to combine rigorous analysis, leadership, and entrepreneurship in pursuit of a career in international affairs and public service.
