Kyle Smith ’28 is studying Finance and Applied & Computational Mathematics & Statistics with minors in Actuarial Science, Energy Studies, and the Business Honors Program. He is passionate about the role of insurance in developing economies, particularly through community-based risk-pooling organizations. Smith is also deeply interested in how climate change and emerging energy technologies are reshaping the global risk landscape.
Funded by the Notre Dame Scholars’ Program and the Liu Institute for Asia & Asian Studies, Smith studied climate resilience and energy infrastructure in Nepal last summer. He also participated in ND Energy’s Puerto Rico seminar immersion, where he examined energy inequities and the challenges posed by unreliable grid infrastructure. Through research, Smith hopes to integrate quantitative modeling with real-world financial and environmental challenges, contributing to scholarship that informs equitable and sustainable policy solutions.
