About

Micah Oosterhoff is a Ph.D. student in History studying early modern diplomatic relations in the Mediterranean world, particularly diplomatic relations between North Africa and the Dutch Empire. His research looks at how emergent early modern forms of capitalism and Protestant imperialism were affected by North African contacts and diplomacy. He is also interested in Mediterranean piracy and religious conversion and its effects on the development of human rights. Prior to Notre Dame, Micah’s work focused on the circulation of knowledge about the Ottoman Empire in early sixteenth-century European news pamphlets.
