About

Gianna Switalski is a history major and a member of the Glynn Family Honors Program in the Class of 2028. In the Kellogg International Scholars Program, Switalski is a research assistant to Professor Sarah Shortall. She supports Professor Shortall's current book project, which explores how Catholics have imagined the global as a theological, ecological, and political problem since the Second World War, and asks how these religious visions have interacted with other forms of global consciousness rooted in international law, science, politics, and the economy. In this role, Switalski transcribes and translates correspondence between Sergio Torres and Virginia Fabella, two members of the governing body of the Ecumenical Association of Third World Theologians.

Switalski is also an Ethics Research Fellow with the Institute for Ethics and the Common Good. As an ERF, she is interested in how and why history is taught, the effects of different historical framings on students, and the practice of manufacturing national pride via history education. Additionally, in 2024, Switalski assisted Professor Mark Roche in creating a free online archive for objective idealist research that has a particular focus on the works of Vittorio Hösle. Furthermore, she received a Summer Language Abroad Grant in the summer of 2025 to study Spanish in Peru.
