Ally Barkasy ’27 is a history major with minors in business economics and real estate at the University of Notre Dame. Currently working with Professor Ted Beatty on an NSF-funded project, her research examines the history of engineering and the Anthropocene by extracting and digitizing presidential addresses from the Transactions of the American Institute of Mining Engineers (1870–1930) to prepare them for exploratory digital humanities analysis using AI tools. Beyond this role, Barkasy conducts research with the Church Properties Initiative at the Fitzgerald Institute for Real Estate, contributing to projects on parish facilities stewardship and adaptive reuse.
Outside of research, she serves as an editor for the Notre Dame Historical Review, the university’s undergraduate history journal. Through her involvement in the Kellogg Developing Researchers Program, she enjoys mentoring students interested in research, interdisciplinary inquiry, and the intersection of history, innovation, and the built environment.
