Lisa Luo is a first-year at the University of Notre Dame majoring in Sociology. Luo’s research interests spread among a wide range of subjects, including sociology, gender studies, anthropology, and East Asian studies. She started research in high school, where she published a paper with her peers on Confucianism’s impacts on trafficked women in China under the guidance of a New York University Professor. Interested in gender studies, she further researched migrant working’s impacts on gender equality. With the completion of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, she finished a variety of research papers on different subjects and looked into media framing and public perceptions about climate change in her extended essay. The past research experience significantly improved her qualitative research skills, particularly in literature review and synthesizing analysis. At Notre Dame, Luo participates in the Glynn Honors Family Program and Student Policy Network. She is passionate about volunteering and raising awareness for underprivileged girls in developing countries.
