About

Michael Petrides is a Class of ‘29 Economics major with a minor in the Glynn Family Honors Program from Summit, New Jersey. Petrides is specifically interested in researching economic development in poor countries, with an emphasis on small businesses and observing structural and cultural barriers to growth. In previous years, Petrides has authored and published an economic research paper, mentored by Dr. John Deskins, Dean of Economics at West Virginia University. Petrides examined the effects of small business growth on GDP growth within West Virginia’s mining counties. Petrides also worked with Dr. Wesley Sine of Cornell University and Ph.D. student Grady Raines to understand the effects of business development policies on the entrepreneurship gender gap in Mexico, India, and the United States. Outside of the classroom, Petrides has grown his economic and business knowledge as a member of the Federal Reserve and Fiscal Challenge Club, and an analyst on a Notre Dame Venture Capital Club project team.
