Who Attacks Whom? A Comparative Study of Public Displays of Conflict and Cooperation Between European Party Elites

This talk examines patterns of conflict and cooperation among political elites in Western Europe, based on an analysis of interparty interactions in 13 countries between 2001 and 2019. It explores how ideological differences, economic conditions, and political institutions shape the nature of elite interactions and what this means for democratic politics.
James F. Adams is a distinguished professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of California, Davis, specializing in voting behavior, party election strategies, and political polarization. He earned his PhD from the University of Michigan and has published extensively on political parties, elections, and public opinion, including the book American Affective Polarization in Comparative Perspective (2020).
