About

Jazmin Cobian is a member of the Class of ’28 at the University of Notre Dame, double majoring in Economics and Sociology. Cobian is a first-generation Mexican-American student who received a public education in a small town in Southern Oregon. As a firsthand witness to disparities within both the public education system and immigration policy, Cobian’s research interests reflect central elements of her background, with a focus on immigration and education.

Using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, Cobian hopes to examine policy-based solutions to disparities within the immigration system and public education. Through an education-equity internship with STAND for Children Oregon, Cobian’s interests were further shaped as she gained insight into literacy rates, multilingual curricula, and the long-term educational impacts of early academic access.

Cobian hopes to further develop these interests through faculty-mentored research and strengthen the methodological skills necessary to produce policy-relevant work with meaningful public impact.
