About

Halle Keane is a sophomore economics and Spanish major with particular interests in anti-poverty policy, collective action theory, and Latin-American political history. As a research assistant to Professor Karen Graubart, a historian specializing in colonial Latin America, Halle’s work involves reading 16th-century Panamanian court documents and examining historical archives in order to create a complete picture of post-conquest colonial Panama. As she focuses on the unique role of black and indigenous communities in 16th-century Panama’s political economy, Halle explores questions of race, gender, and empowerment in historically-disenfranchised communities.
