Carly Sandstrom is a first-year PhD student in political science at the University of Notre Dame and a Kellogg Institute PhD Fellow. She received her BA in Social Relations and Policy and Comparative Cultures and Politics from Michigan State University and her MA in human rights studies from Columbia University. Carly’s MA thesis centered on the rights of children during armed conflict using a case study from the Syrian Civil War. Carly has also studied at the Catholic University of Leuven as a research assistant on electoral politics. Before her time at Notre Dame, Carly was awarded a scholarship in honor of Ms. Francesca Tardiolo, former Italian Ambassador to Australia, from the Universities Network for Children in Armed Conflict for her writing on what justice means for children in armed conflicts.
