Jeffrey Erbig

Jeffrey Erbig is an Assistant Professor of Latin American and Latino Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His recently published book, Where Caciques and Mapmakers Met: Border Making in Eighteenth-Century South America (UNC Press, 2020), analyzes Indigenous responses to Luso-Hispanic efforts to partition South America. His current project examines convict deportation (destierro/degredo) in Spanish and Portuguese America and its connections to Indigenous exile and land dispossession. His stay at the Kellogg Institute is supported by an American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Fellowship.
