Latin America Film Series (spring)

Latin American Film Series at Notre Dame seeks to promote the study of modern and contemporary Latin America through cinema and screen culture. The project is conceived as an opportunity to expose the Notre Dame community to the most important and pressing subjects in the region, while creating a space for interdisciplinary, pedagogical, and critical engagement. The series will present, each semester, a set of films encircling a specific topic. These topics will be selected taking into consideration the relation between a particular cinematic production (local or continental) and issues regarding democracy, human development in the selected countries; some examples include: “War and Conflict in Colombia”; “New Democracy in Cuba”; “Latin American-US migrants”; and “Religiosity and Human Rights in the Andean Region”. Each set will consist of approximately three films per semester and every screening will feature a scholar or/and filmmaker to discuss the film.
