Matthew Fishburne is a senior at the University of Notre Dame studying Political Science, FTT, and Italian Studies. He speaks fluent Italian and is currently learning Slovak in preparation for his Fulbright ETA application. His research interests include history, religion, education, development, and governance in the United States, Europe, and Latin America.

Fishburne is currently a member of the Student Policy Network, where he has worked on projects regarding populism in El Salvador and Venezuela, as well as the human trafficking crisis in the United States. For coursework, he has written research papers on development in Costa Rica, the North-South economic divide in Italy, and differences between American and Italian law regarding conscientious objection.

Fishburne has also traveled to Italy four times through Notre Dame, and he has taught English to migrants in Rome and middle schoolers in Bologna.
