About

Lucy Loes ’29 is a global affairs and environmental science major from Minneapolis, Minnesota, with intended minors in energy studies and justice & society. Her interests center on environmental justice, migration, ecologically unequal exchanges, energy transitions, and climate policy, with a focus on how large-scale environmental decisions affect vulnerable communities. She is currently a research assistant for Dr. Emily Grubert, contributing to human-subjects research on community responses to power plant closures.

At Notre Dame, Loes is involved as a news writer for The Observer and participates in the Outing Club. Through KDR, she hopes to build research skills that bridge qualitative methods—such as interviews, narrative analysis, and community-based work—with environmental science approaches. She is also studying Ukrainian in preparation for a Nanovic Institute Serving in Europe trip to Lithuania this summer and is motivated by a desire to approach climate solutions in ways that are ethical, people-centered, and grounded in lived experience.
