Film Screening "Secrets from Putumayo"

Screening of the documentary "Secrets from Putumayo" (2022), directed by Brazilian filmmaker Aurelio Michiles in DPAC. This thought-provoking documentary revisits the Putumayo region in Peru and the torture, mutilation, and killings documented and denounced by Roger Casement. The movie's poignant script gives voice to the local Peruvian population through interviews with descendants of the Putumayo Human Rights atrocities. The screening of the movie will be followed by a Q&A with director Aurelio Michiles, and, in tune with the idea of valuing the agency and human dignity of indigenous populations, a contemporary Human Rights and environmental protection leader, Vanda Witoto, from the Brazilian Amazon region will also participate in the event (TBC). Ms. Witoto is a strong community and political leader who has brought great visibility to the contemporary Human Right violations in the Amazon Region. Her participation will hopefully reinforce the timeliness and importance of Casement’s legacy nowadays.
