About

Duncan Stangel is a Global Affairs and Theology major working with Professor Laura Gamboa, who studies opposition strategies that resist democratic erosion. He is currently researching the effects of party system institutionalization (PSI) and polarization on democracies in Latin America. Specifically, how PSI affects the rise of antidemocratic populist parties. 

In addition to being a Kellogg Scholar, Stangel is the Social Media Editor at the Observer where he also serves as a copyeditor for the Opinion section. He is the co-leader of the Alumni Hall Conversations of Purpose group for Fall 2025, a Sorin Fellow, and a member of the Transformational Leaders Program.
