Cristian Velix García is a Guatemalan journalist dedicated to investigative reporting.His work has focused on corruption, public spending, transparency, politics and justice. Throughout his career, he has published in the most important media outlets in his country, including La Hora, Prensa Libre, elPeriódico, Nuestro Diario and Prensa Comunitaria. Due to his work as a journalist, he has faced political persecution and has been living in exile since 2023.

After leaving Guatemala, he continued reporting on critical issues affecting his country. He also collaborated with Article 19 to review freedom of expression topics in Central America and was a fellow at the International Center for Journalists and the Institute for War & Peace Reporting, where he conducted investigative reports. Additionally, he was a speaker at the Conferencia Latinoamericana de Periodismo de Investigación, the most important event of its kind in the region.

During his fellowship at the Kellogg Institute, he will develop a research titled "Media narratives about corruption in public infrastructure projects in Guatemala". This will combine an academic analysis of media coverage about this topic, which is one of the country’s major sources of embezzlement; the elaboration of a tool to help community journalists oversee public works in their territories; and an investigative report on how millions of dollars were siphoned from public funds through infrastructure projects during the administration of the Vamos party.

Velix García holds a degree in Communication Sciences from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala.
