About

Caio Dantas is from Brasília, Brazil, and is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Economics at the University of Notre Dame. His broad research interests span international macroeconomics, sovereign debt crises, and fiscal policy in developing economies. Before joining Notre Dame, Caio received his bachelor's degree in economics from the University of São Paulo.

His research focuses on understanding why low- and middle-income countries face debt sustainability challenges through the lens of quantitative macroeconomic models. He studies previously overlooked mechanisms that drive sovereign default risk, including the quality of public investment, structural change, and behavioral biases in the formation of expectations.
