About

Achenkeng Ekokobe is a Biochemistry major at the University of Notre Dame. Raised in Cameroon but currently residing in New York, Achenkeng is passionate about neurological development and the intersection of the microsystem with broader cultural perceptions—particularly how these dynamics influence health equity. As an undergraduate researcher in the Smith Lab, Achenkeng traces and annotates neurons in high-resolution electron microscopy data sets from the spinal cord of the zebrafish, a vertebrate model organism. Achenkeng serves as a volunteer through the Mercy Works program, a member of Student Government, a Mary E. Galvin Scholar, and a Transformational Leaders Program (TLP) Scholar.

Achenkeng's current research interests lie at the intersection of Global South economics and the health inequities that arise as a result. Achenkeng is eager to continue developing her research skills and deepening her understanding of how structural and cultural factors shape access to healthcare across diverse communities.
