Former International Scholar and current PhD student Flora Tang (peace studies and theology) has written an opinion piece in America Magazine titled, “Purity Culture, Racism and the Violence Against Asian Women in Atlanta.” The article is a reflection on temptation, victim-blaming, Asian stereotypes, gender roles, and religion in relation to the mass shooting of six Asian American women in Georgia.

Tang writes, “This purity culture that blames women for their experiences of unwanted sexual attention, when combined with structural racism, perpetuates hypersexualized stereotypes of women of color within our popular imagination.”
