LLEA 47498 01
Instructors in charge:
Prof. Deborah Shamoon (202 Decio, dshamoon@nd.edu)
Prof. Sylvia Lin (264 Decio, slin@nd.edu)
Based upon the 2011 Asian Film Festival & Conference, students will examine the recent trends in Japanese animation. Students will participate in the film festival and conference by attending the screenings and guest presentations about the films.
Requirements: Students are required to actively participate in all festival and conference events, including film screenings and academic panels. In order to familiarize ourselves with the historical, cultural, and political backgrounds of the films, we will read a selection of academic articles related to the films and panels. After the festival, students will submit one of the following: 1) a reflection paper, approximately 3 pages in length, double-spaced; 2) a creative project that is approved by the instructors. You will receive one credit for this course, with a grade of pass or fail.
All required reading material will be placed on Concourse.
Course Registration
Because the regular “course add” period has ended, students must complete a green “Academic Course Change” form in order to enroll. Please go to the East Asian Languages and Cultures office (205 O'Shaughnessy) to get the form, which Administrative Assistant Jessica Green can help you complete. Note that it must be signed by your academic advisor and submitted to your dean's office (104 O'Shaughnessy if you are an A&L student).
Filling out this form is now the only way to enroll. Please enroll before March 21 so you can have access to the reading assignments in advance of the festival.
