Many developing countries face large debt amortizations in the coming years, while external financing has collapsed. Faced by a dual (Covid/oil prices) shock in 2020, Ecuador embarked on a sovereign debt restructuring, combined with an IMF supported program and debt rescheduling with China. This unique process provides insights, takeaways and lessons for future debt restructuring cases in the developing world.
