Social Media Governance in Latin America & South Asia Workshop

Experts on social media governance in Latin America and South Asia will meet to work towards an edited volume. At present, the regulatory landscape is largely unmapped throughout the Global South, and particularly in Latin America. To fill this gap, participants will write case studies describing the regulatory landscape in their country as it relates to content moderation and select one piece of regulation to analyze the politics of its creation and its implementation. The analyses will also propose alternatives for social media governance going forward. We will publish open access working papers in both English and Spanish and then work towards an academic edited book in English. Thematically, this initiative to research platform governance in the Global South connects directly with Kellogg Institute’s mission to promote research on pressing challenges to democracy worldwide.

This is a closed workshop, but anyone interested in participating should contact Susan Ostermann
